Reminders don't ring, or ring late
Android rings Memlow's reminders even when the app is closed, but a few settings on your phone decide whether they arrive on time. When you save a reminder, Memlow checks them and shows Make sure this reminder rings with a button for anything that's off. You can check again at any time in Settings → Reminders not ringing?
- Notifications: allow notifications for Memlow, including its Reminders channel.
- Exact times: on Android 12 and newer, allow Alarms & reminders for Memlow. Without it, a reminder may ring up to an hour late.
- Battery: set Memlow's battery use to Unrestricted (or No restrictions) in App info → App battery usage.
Some phones, such as Xiaomi, vivo, OPPO, realme, Huawei and Samsung, stop apps to save battery. Also allow Memlow to start automatically, and don't swipe it away from recent apps. If the phone stops Memlow anyway, its reminders ring the next time you open it, marked “Missed”.
Back up your notes
Your notes live on your phone, so a backup is what keeps them safe if the phone is lost or replaced.
Google Drive backup (recommended)
- Open Settings → Google Drive backup and choose your Google account.
- Create a backup password. You'll need it to restore your notes on a new phone, so keep it somewhere safe: we can't recover it for you.
- Choose how often: daily, weekly or only when you tap Back up now. You can limit backups to Wi-Fi.
Backups are encrypted on your phone and kept in a hidden Memlow folder in your own Drive. Memlow keeps the three newest.
A backup file you keep
Settings → Create backup file saves all notes, photos and voice notes in one .memlow file, for example on your phone, a memory card or a computer. Give it a password to encrypt it.
Move to a new phone
- On your old phone, make a fresh backup: Back up now in Google Drive backup, or create a backup file and copy it to the new phone.
- Install Memlow on the new phone and tap Restore from a backup on the welcome screen (or later in Settings → Restore from a backup).
- Pick Google Drive or the file, and enter your backup password.
- Choose Replace to make the new phone match the backup, or Merge to keep notes that are already there. Memlow keeps a safety copy first.
Then turn on Keep backing up to Google Drive to carry on with the same password.
Forgot your PIN
On the lock screen, tap Forgot PIN?
- If fingerprint unlock is on, unlock with your fingerprint and set a new PIN.
- If it isn't, the PIN can't be recovered. That's what keeps locked notes safe, even from us. You can Reset Memlow, which deletes everything in Memlow on that phone, and then restore your notes from a backup.
Export notes
- One note: open its menu and share or save it as PDF, Markdown, plain text or an image. A note with photos or voice notes becomes a ZIP.
- All notes: Settings → Export all notes makes a ZIP of Markdown files, ready for other apps.
Change the language
Memlow follows your phone's language. To use another one in Memlow only, open Settings → App language. Memlow has 35 languages, including Arabic, Urdu, Persian and Hebrew written right to left.
Ads and your choices
Memlow is free and shows a few ads from Google AdMob. They never appear in the editor, in search, on the lock screen or while the keyboard is open, and they never see your notes.
- Where the law requires it, Memlow asks for your consent before personalised ads. Change it in Settings → Ad privacy choices.
- You can reset or delete your phone's advertising ID in your phone's settings (Settings → Privacy → Ads or Google → Ads).
Details are in the privacy policy.
Delete your data
Your notes never reach us, so there are none on our side to delete. Everything is on your phone and, if you turned on backups, in your own Google Drive.
- On your phone: uninstall Memlow, or clear its storage in Android Settings → Apps → Memlow → Storage. This deletes all notes, photos, voice notes and settings.
- In Google Drive: in Memlow, open Settings → Google Drive backup and tap Delete Drive backups. Or, on a computer, open Google Drive → Settings → Manage apps → Memlow → Options → Delete hidden app data.
- Backup files you saved yourself: delete them like any other file.
- Memlow on the web: open Settings → Backup and data → Erase Memlow from this browser, or clear your browser's site data for app.memlow.com. If you linked Google Drive, first use Settings → Storage and Google Drive → Delete Drive backups (this deletes the Android app's backups too).
If you emailed us and want that conversation deleted, ask at support@memlow.com.
Report a problem
Write to support@memlow.com with:
- your phone's make and model, and its Android version;
- your Memlow version (Settings → About → Version);
- what you did, what you expected and what happened instead (a screenshot helps).
Please don't send us your PIN, your backup password or the text of private notes. We never need them.
Memlow on the web
app.memlow.com is Memlow in your browser: the same notes, checklists, tables, themes, reminders and lock, free and with no ads.
Where your notes are
In your browser, on this device. Clearing the browser's data for app.memlow.com, using a private window, or switching to another browser or computer leaves them behind. To keep them safe:
- Link Google Drive in Settings → Storage and Google Drive. Memlow backs up your notes, encrypted with your backup password, to its hidden folder in your own Drive. These are the same backups the Android app makes: use the same Google account and backup password, and notes you write on the web come to your phone (in the app: Settings → Restore from a backup → Google Drive), and the phone's come here by themselves. We can't recover that password.
- Or save a backup file now and then in Settings → Backup and data, with a password to encrypt it. The Android app restores these files too (and its backup files open here).
- Protect storage (in the same settings) asks the browser not to clear Memlow's data when space runs low.
Install it like an app
In Chrome or Edge, click the install button in the address bar, or open the browser menu and choose to install Memlow. On an iPhone or iPad, tap Share → Add to Home Screen in Safari. Memlow then opens in its own window and works offline.
Reminders on the web
Allow notifications when Memlow asks. A browser can only ring a reminder while Memlow is open in a tab or installed and running; if it was closed, the reminder shows as missed the next time you open Memlow. For reminders that always ring, use the Android app.
Shortcuts
N new note, / search, Ctrl + K (⌘ + K on a Mac) to jump anywhere, Ctrl + F to find in a note, and type / on an empty line for headings, tables and more.
