A spreadsheet that lives with your notes
Memlow Sheets is a free spreadsheet app, and it has its own place in Memlow: the sidebar on the web, and the bar along the bottom of a phone. Start a blank sheet or one of the 12 templates, and your sheets wait below with a small picture of each, sorted by when you last opened or edited them. A sheet is also a note, so it syncs, backs up, shares and prints like any other.
The sheet opens full screen, with the menus you'd expect (File, Edit, View, Insert, Format, Data and Help), a toolbar, a formula bar and tabs along the bottom. Select some cells and the sum, average and count show beside the tabs. Can't find something? Search the menus finds any command by name.
Each tab starts at 100 rows and 26 columns. Resize, freeze, hide and merge rows and columns, wrap long text, zoom from 50% to 200%, show the formulas instead of their results, or print the sheet.
108 functions that work the way you expect
There are 108 functions, and they mean what they mean in Google Sheets. You'll find SUM, AVERAGE, IF, IFS, SUMIF, COUNTIFS, VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, INDEX and MATCH. Dates have DATEDIF and NETWORKDAYS, text has SPLIT and REGEXMATCH, and money has PMT and NPV. Type = and a few letters, and Memlow lists the matching functions with a short hint for each, in your language.
Name a range (say, Budget) and write =SUM(Budget). Formulas update the moment a number changes, and a sparkline draws a tiny chart inside one cell. Formulas and functions in Sheets lists them all.
Checkboxes, dropdowns and colour rules
The Insert menu turns cells into the things you'd otherwise draw by hand:
- a checkbox to tick, for attendance or a packing list;
- a dropdown, with a colour for each option, such as Done in green and Blocked in red;
- a radio choice, a date picker, star ratings and a progress bar;
- a link, or a short note pinned to a cell.
Conditional formatting colours cells by what they hold, so overdue dates turn red. Data validation limits what a cell accepts, and alternating colours make long lists easy to read. In the Data menu you can sort by several columns, filter, save filter views, remove duplicates and split text to columns.
15 chart types that follow the numbers
Pick some cells and choose a chart. There are 15 types, from column, bar and line to pie, donut, combo, histogram and gauge, with stacked and 100% versions where they make sense. The chart floats over the sheet, where you can drag it, or gets a tab of its own. A side panel sets the data, titles, colours, legend and axes, and the chart changes as soon as the numbers do. Charts work in ordinary notes too. Make a chart from your sheet shows how.
Works offline
Sheets work with no connection, on Android and in your browser after the first visit, because the sheet is on your device. Changes go into your encrypted backups and reach your other devices like any note. Share a sheet in a notebook or with your team, and protected ranges let only some people edit the parts that matter.
Import a CSV
To bring numbers in, import a CSV or TSV file of up to 20 MB as a new tab or over an existing one, and export a tab the same way. Memlow can't open Excel files directly: save them as CSV first.
12 ready-made sheets
Start from a template and the formulas, colours and charts are already there. There's a monthly budget, an expense split, a habit tracker, a workout log and a sales tracker, plus an attendance sheet, a timetable, a grade sheet, a study planner, an invoice, an inventory sheet and a project tracker. Type over the samples and they're yours. All the sheet templates are free.
Is it a Google Sheets alternative?
For your own budget, a timetable, a class register or a shop's stock list, it can be. It's free, it works offline, it has no AI, and the sheet stays on your device. Google Sheets is the better tool for big spreadsheets that many people edit at once, for scripts and add-ons, and for opening Excel files as they are. Memlow Sheets is the small, private one that sits next to your notes.
