Offline isn't a mode, it's the default
Plenty of notes apps keep the real copy on a server and show you a version of it, so when the connection drops you get a spinner. Memlow works the other way round. Your notes live on your device, and the internet is only used for the optional Google Drive backup (and, in the Android app, for ads, which simply don't show when you're offline).
So there's no page to wait for, no warning that you've lost connection, and no note lost because a save didn't reach a server. That matters more than it sounds. Patchy mobile data, a long flight, a waiting room with no signal, the back room of a shop: these are often exactly the moments you need a list or want to jot something down.
What works without internet
- Writing and editing, with headings, checklists, tables, photos and voice recordings
- Search through every word of every note, in any language
- Folders, tags, pins, archive and Trash
- Themes, colours and papers
- PIN lock, and fingerprint unlock on Android
- Reminders and the Tasks view
- Exporting to Markdown, text or PDF, and saving backup files
Even smart reminder suggestions work offline, because they're simple rules on your device rather than a service somewhere. The one exception is voice typing, which uses your device's or browser's speech service and may need a connection. Voice recordings work offline.
Memlow on the web, offline too
app.memlow.com keeps working offline after your first visit. Install it for the full app feel: in Chrome or Edge, use the install button in the address bar; on an iPhone or iPad, tap Share and then Add to Home Screen in Safari. Memlow then opens in its own window, starts faster and works without internet.
On the web, notes are kept in the browser's storage on that device. Turn on Protect storage in Settings to ask the browser not to clear Memlow's data when space runs low. If you've linked Google Drive, changes you make offline simply wait, and go up in the next backup once Memlow is online and connected to your Drive again.
The Android app is fully offline
The Android app needs no connection at all for your notes. Reminders ring on time with the app closed, widgets show today's tasks and a note of your choice on the home screen, and Share to Memlow drops text or photos from other apps straight into a note. It's an offline notes app you can count on for the commute, the flight or a weekend away.
Back up when you're back
Working offline is only half of it: a note that lives on one device should still be safe. When you're online, Google Drive backup saves an encrypted copy to your own Drive. On Android you can keep backups to Wi-Fi, so a week of notes written on the road goes up once you're home, without using mobile data. Rather stay offline entirely? Save a password-protected backup file to a computer or USB stick now and then.
