- Choose Memlow if you want every note free, offline on Android and in your browser, with backups only you can open and no AI.
- Stay with Evernote if you clip web pages, search inside PDFs and scans, or need apps for Windows, Mac and iPhone. Its paid plans start at $14.99 a month.
- Memlow can't import Evernote's .enex files, so moving means copying across what you still use.

Is Evernote still free?
Yes, but with a cap. As of October 2026, Evernote's free plan holds up to 50 notes in one notebook and syncs to one device. Its paid plans start at $14.99 a month, or $99 a year, for Starter. That cap is why many people look for a free Evernote alternative: Memlow has no note limit and no paid plan, on Android and on the web.
Where Evernote is better
- The web clipper saves what you find in your browser straight into a note.
- It searches the text inside images, PDFs and scanned documents, which suits receipts and paperwork.
- There are apps for Windows, Mac, iPhone and iPad as well as Android and the web. Memlow has no desktop or iPhone app.
- It has years of features for heavy users, from PDF annotation to a meeting recorder.
Where Memlow is different
- Everything is free, with no limit on notes, notebooks or devices, and nothing to unlock later.
- Notes are kept on your device, and backups go to your own Google Drive, encrypted with a password only you know.
- There's no AI: nothing summarises, rewrites or searches your notes with a model.
- Checklists can carry a reminder on a single item, and Tasks gathers every reminder. Goals and Memlow Sheets sit in the same app.
- You can lock a note with a PIN, and share a notebook or a single note with end-to-end encryption.
Who should stay with Evernote
Do you clip the web every day, keep scanned documents you need to search, or work across a Mac, a PC and an iPhone? Then Evernote is the stronger tool, and its paid plans pay for that. If your notes are shopping lists, lecture notes, plans and private pages, and the 50-note cap is what's pushing you away, Memlow does that for free.
How to move from Evernote
Export your notes anyway: Evernote's desktop app saves them as .enex or HTML files, and that copy is yours to keep. Memlow can't import those files, so bring across the notes you still use:
- Open app.memlow.com, or the Android app.
- Copy each note from Evernote into a new Memlow note, and put it in a folder.
- If you have notes as text or Markdown files, drop them onto app.memlow.com and each becomes a note.
- Turn on Google Drive backup, so the notes are safe and reach your other devices.
Bring in notes from text or Markdown files explains what comes across, from headings and lists to checklists and tables.
