Where Todoist is better

  • It's built for tasks: projects, sections and filter views to slice a long list the way you like.
  • Dates typed in plain words become due dates, and its apps cover iPhone, Mac, Windows, Linux and watches.
  • It has browser extensions and email add-ons, so tasks can come in from wherever you work.

If your day is a list of 200 tasks across ten projects, Todoist will serve you better.

Where Memlow is different

  • Tasks live inside your notes. A shopping list, a meeting's action items or a revision plan is a note with a checklist, and every item with a date shows up in Tasks.
  • Reminders are free, on any item, repeating daily, on chosen weekdays, monthly or yearly, with snooze.
  • Around the tasks there's everything a notes app has: themes, photos, voice notes, Memlow Sheets, and Goals with streaks.
  • There's no AI. Reminder suggestions from your words come from fixed rules on your device.
  • Backups go to your own Google Drive, encrypted with your password, and shared lists are end to end encrypted.

TickTick and Microsoft To Do

Two other task apps people compare. TickTick has a free plan with limits, such as 9 lists and 99 tasks per list, and Premium at US$49.99 a year (source 10 above). Microsoft To Do has apps for Android, iPhone, Mac, Windows and the web, with a Microsoft account (source 11 above). Both are task managers first. Memlow is a notes app whose lists can ring, so it fits people who'd rather keep tasks and notes in one place.

Who should stay with Todoist

Stay with Todoist if you work from projects and filters, need an iPhone or desktop app, or connect tasks to other tools. Memlow suits someone who writes lists in notes and wants them to remind, repeat and tick off, free, on Android and in a browser. See the to do list app page.

How to move from Todoist

  1. Open app.memlow.com or the Android app, and make a note for each Todoist project you still use.
  2. Type each task as a checklist item: [ ] and a space.
  3. Put a reminder on the items with a date, and set it to repeat where it did in Todoist.

There's no Todoist importer, so moving by hand is also a good moment to drop the tasks you'll never do.

Questions

Something else? Look in the Help Center or write to [email protected].

Is Memlow a free Todoist alternative?

Yes. Every feature in Memlow is free, repeating reminders included. The Android app shows a few ads; the web app has none.

Does Memlow have projects and labels like Todoist?

It has folders, #tags and notes with checklists, and a Tasks view of everything with a date. There are no projects, priorities or filter views for tasks.

Can I import my Todoist tasks?

Not directly: there's no Todoist importer. Copy across the tasks you need as checklist items.

Does Memlow understand dates I type?

Yes. Write "call the bank tomorrow at 5" and it offers that reminder, using fixed rules in 12 languages, with no AI.

Is there an iPhone app?

No. Memlow is on Android and the web. We haven't tested the web app in Safari on an iPhone, so we can't promise it works well there.

Try it with your own notes.

Memlow is free, with no AI. Open it in your browser in a second, or get the Android app.
