Memlow Cloud: 50 GB of encrypted storage

On Android and on the webUpdated

Memlow Cloud is your own 50 GB of storage, and it comes with the Pro Cloud plan. It holds your notes, photos, recordings, sheets and backups, sealed on your device with your backup key before they leave. Memlow stores those sealed files and can't read them. You can use it beside your Google Drive or in place of it.

Memlow Cloud is optional. Google Drive backup stays free for everyone, and you can stay on it.

Note

Memlow Cloud is in the web app now, and on Android in the next Android update. An older Memlow on your phone only uses Google Drive, so update it first, or choose both places.

What Memlow can and can't see

Everything is end-to-end encrypted with the same backup key as your Drive backups. We store only file names made of random ids, the sizes and the change times. We can't open a note, a photo or a recording.

That also means we can't get your notes back for you. If you lose your backup password and every device, your notes in Memlow Cloud are gone. Keep the password somewhere safe, away from your phone. See what to do if you lose your backup password.

Choose where your notes are kept

  1. Open Settings, then Backup settings.
  2. Under Where your notes are kept, choose Google Drive, Memlow Cloud or both.
  3. Read what Memlow says, and confirm.

What's on your device starts uploading in the background, with its progress on the screen. Only sealed files leave the device.

  • With Memlow Cloud alone, Google Drive rests. Your files in Drive stay there.
  • With both, the two are kept in step. If one can't be reached, the other goes on.
  • With Google Drive, nothing changes from how backup works for everyone.

Your choice belongs to your account. Sync works the same as with Drive: changes from your phone and computer are merged, and nothing is lost when they clash.

Open your notes on another device

A new phone or browser needs your backup key. Type your backup password, or approve the new device from one that's already signed in. If you've turned on Remember my backup key in my account, it asks nothing.

How much it holds

  • 50 GB in all. Backup settings and the plan page show how much you've used.
  • One file can be up to 4 GB. A note with a bigger file stays on your device.
  • There's a limit on uploads per day. When you reach it, everything stays on your device and uploads go on by themselves the next day.

When Memlow Cloud is full, uploads stop and new changes stay on your device, so nothing is lost. Free up space by emptying Trash or removing big photos, or keep your notes in Google Drive.

When Pro Cloud ends

Memlow Cloud goes read-only for 90 days. Nothing new goes up, and you can still download and restore everything.

  • Memlow tells you when it starts, and again 30, 7 and 1 days before the end.
  • Move to Google Drive moves your notes across, once Drive is linked.
  • Starting Pro Cloud again within the 90 days lets you write to it again.
  • After the 90 days your copy in Memlow Cloud is deleted, never before a final notice.

The notes on your devices stay either way. While a subscription is on hold in Google Play because a payment failed, Memlow Cloud is read-only too, and nothing is deleted.

Leave Memlow Cloud or erase it

To go back, choose Google Drive under Where your notes are kept. Your Cloud copy stays until you erase it or its time is up.

To remove it now, choose Erase my Memlow Cloud copy on the web or Erase Memlow Cloud on Android. It's deleted for good, and the notes on your devices stay.

Deleting your Memlow account deletes your Cloud copy as well, after telling you how much there is. See Delete your notes, backups and account.

Do I have to stop using Google Drive?

No. Choose Google Drive, Memlow Cloud or both. Drive backup stays free for everyone.

What happens to Memlow Cloud when Pro Cloud ends?

It goes read-only for 90 days, and you can still download everything or move it to Google Drive. After that the copy there is deleted. The notes on your devices stay.
