What's in this split bills sheet

  • A list of costs with the date, what it was for, who paid (picked from a dropdown) and the amount.
  • For each person: what they paid, their fair share of the total and their balance.
  • Positive balances in green and negative ones in red, so who owes is clear at a glance.
  • A chart of what each person paid against their fair share.

Use it on a trip or at home

  1. Put the sheet in a shared notebook, so everyone on the trip adds their own costs from their phone.
  2. Add a name to the Paid by dropdown in Data, Data validation, and a row for that person in the summary.
  3. When everyone has paid up, start a new tab for the next trip.

Questions about splitting bills

How does the split bills calculator work?

It adds up what each person paid, divides the total equally, and shows each balance. Someone above zero gets money back; someone below zero owes that much.

Can everyone add their own costs?

Yes. Share the sheet in a notebook and each person adds costs from their own phone or computer, encrypted end to end.

Is there a simpler version?

Yes. Memlow also has a Shared expenses note template: a table of who paid what, with the total added up.
